Ryan is Director of Kainai Studes at Red Crow College on the Blood Reserve and a regular columnist for Nature Alberta Magazine and he and his wife Adrienne are also caretakers of the Beaver Medicine Bundle, which embodies the original treaty between human beings and animals of the Upper Saskatchewan and Missouri watersheds. In this presentation Ryan will discuss Blackfoot perspectives on ecology and current efforts to renew a traditional phonological science community through research practices associated with the Beaver Bundle. Yousif Attica from the Calgary Bird Banding Society presented an informative and interesting talk about the Cypress Hills bird observatory which is currently in its third year of operation. Yousif covered topics that included mist nesting, banding details, education, trends and volunteering. Following the Christmas Bird Count, there will be a Potluck Dinner at the Police Point Interpretive Centre at 5:30 PM (bring a dish of your choice, main course, salad or a desert as well as plates and cutlery; coffee will be provided). After the meal, a summary of the days discoveries will be recounted. Also a very short business meeting will be conducted. |
